November 10- Light Parade and The Lighting of Shipshewana: The Holiday Light Parade officially kicks off the Christmas season in Shipshewana and begins at dusk (6:00pm). The parade will wander throughout Shipshewana. Along with the traditional tree lighting in front of the Blue Gate Restaurant & Theatre, there will be Christmas Carols, Santa visits and refreshments throughout town. Activities all day long throughout town, including a Christmas pedestrian walk-way along Harrison St. This is truly a spectacular event! Visit www.lightingofshipshewana.com
November 10th- Harrison Street is Celebrating Christmas in a BIG Way. (A unique Christmas walk-way) Snap your photo sitting in an over-sized Adirondack chair and other over-sized locally made objects that will be decorated for the holidays and staged along Harrison Street to create that perfect Christmas postcard. Come enjoy free refreshments and special deals from 10am-1pm at the Christmas Open Houses hosted by the Harrison Street Shops. 4pm-6pm & 7pm-9:00pm Santa will be located on the 3rd floor of the Davis Mercantile (corner of Harrison & Main St.) He will be giving gifts, and there will be cookies & hot chocolate at Aunt Millie's. Warm yourself with hot chocolate, chili and other delicious treats served up by local food vendors in the afternoon and into the evening as you wait to watch the magical Shipshewana Light Parade.
November 16th- December 30th- Shipshewana's Lights of Joy Drive Thru
Shipshewana will become home to more than two million LED Christmas lights displayed in a mile-long symphony of various light scenes this holiday season. Shipshewana’s Lights of Joy, a drive-through light display experience that will begin this season on November 16th and run through December 30. Shipshewana Trading Place and Blue Gate Hospitality have partnered with Winterland, Inc. to bring the holiday experience to town.Shipshewana’s Gift of Lights will be set up on the grounds of the Shipshewana RV Park and will wind back and forth through dozens of displays. Visitors will enter at the grounds of the Shipshewana Flea Market on SR 5 and drive through the 1 mile course of Christmas light scenes, exiting onto CR 200 N. The drive-through light display will be open to visitors Thursday through Sunday starting Friday Nov. 16 and ending on Dec. 30. Hours of operation will be Thursday and Sunday, 6:00 p.m. – 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 6:00 p.m. – 10 p.m. The cost is $15 per vehicle on Thursdays and Sundays and $20 per vehicle on Fridays and Saturdays. November 17 - Chocolate Day purchase your one of a kind chocolate box at Aunt Millie's Candy & Nuts inside the Davis Mercantile. Then stroll through our delightful town collecting chocolate confections to fill your box. All inclusive. For details call 260-768-7728. Proceeds each year benefit a local charity or cause. December 1 - Kids Day 10:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. The fun begins at J. Farvers Books & Gifts, located in Yoder's Red Barn Shoppes, 451 S. Van Buren St. Kids travel to locations throughout Shipshewana for a day of fun activities and surprises! For more Information: call: 260-768-4339
December 1 - Santa arrives in Shipshewana, visiting with children from noon to 3 pm at Farmstead Inn Expo Barn. Children will receive a bag filled with goodies.
This indoor handmade and vintage market is a curated indoor pop-up market featuring vendors who specialize in antiques, crafts, handmade items, primitives, artisan goods, furniture, salvage, home & garden décor, baked goods, gifts and so much more. The barn will be full of unique items, plus there are shopper door prizes and giveaways. $5 admission, free parking. More information here.
December 27th & 28th - 11th Annual Shipshewana Ice Festival - The Ice Festival kicks off on Dec 27th with teams of carvers creating themed sculptures from 10 am-8 pm at businesses throughout town. More Info here.
December 28th - Downtown Shipshewana - The Wolfe Building parking lot is the location for the ice carving competition (10am to 1pm) and the 2018 Chili Cook-off (11am until they run out). Visitors can purchase a collector's pin, designed each year by a Westview High School student, which entitles the holder to FREE admission to the Chili Cook-off and discounts throughout town for the entire month of January 2019.
