WELCOME TO SHIPSHEWANA

Nearly 670 residents call Shipshewana home, and many of the two million annual travelers who sojourn here wish that they, too, could call it home.  Locals hold their blessed heritage close to their hearts, while visitors admire and even long for this simpler way of life.  "Shipshe" as we call it, means many things to many different people, but it mostly symbolizes simplicity.

The Shipshewana area is celebrated for being home to the third largest Amish community in the United States, for having the Midwest's largest flea market, and for its reputation of hand-crafted wares.

Most area businesses are family-owned.  In keeping with local religious traditions, you'll find that most businesses are closed Sundays.  Sundays and evenings are great times to enjoy the beautiful parks and scenic drives.

We hope your time spent in Shipshewana will renew and refresh your spirit and that your treasured souvenirs include precious memories and new friendships.
